“I create beautiful gardens that work – for you” Rachel Merrick

Wimbledon SW19 London

Classic Garden Design in Wimbledon, London.

The Garden Design Project – An Overview

The property: The property featured a steep garden split into three levels – with two upper flat levels which provided for entertaining space and a lawn, this led to a gentle planted bank towards the end of the garden.

The conceptual brief: Despite the property featuring in an urban area and being relatively modern, our client wished to create a traditional, softer look for her outside space.

Project challenges

The primary challenge was to produce a garden that provided colour for as long a duration as possible – and to choose a mix of grasses and wildflowers to offer colour.

Project Approach and Classic Garden Design Solution

The lower section of the garden was laid out with wildflower turf, with 1,000 spring bulbs planted under the turf to add early season colour before the grasses and wildflowers grow above knee height. With good management, this will continue to delight and surprise each year.

To achieve a soft traditional look, we employed herbaceous perennials and structural shrubs – with these providing interest through varying heights.
